Culture Is Contagious

What Spreads Without Words
Hi,
You can usually sense a healthy culture quickly—whether in a family, workplace, classroom, or among friends. People breathe more easily, stay open to surprise, laugh, and adapt. Honest conversation and small, low-risk experiments are welcome. Those experiments lead to reflection, which shapes what comes next.
Over time, learning becomes routine rather than occasional. In healthy cultures, one notices warmth, safety, unforced laughter, curiosity, humility, candor, permission to fail, and room to grow.
Unhealthy cultures feel very different. Envy and jealousy spread quickly, slipping in unnoticed. People talk behind others’ backs. The culture’s emotional weather shifts before anyone names it.
Harmful behaviors become normalized, sometimes even rewarded. The people who see what’s happening leave; beneficiaries remain. The cycle continues.
Empathy and generosity spread just as quickly. One small act can change the atmosphere, sending ripples of trust and hope through a group. I’ve seen this repeatedly—in teams, families, and communities.
One person’s calm or quiet kindness can steady everyone.
A question for you to ponder: What is spreading through your presence today?
Have a great week!
Mark
